Multiple Grand Slam winner Serena Williams has ended her incredibly succesful 2015 season prematurely. Due to injuries, her elbow, knee and the severe heartache after her sad loss at the US Open 2015 versus Roberta Vinci. Serena Williams was only 2 matches away from winning the prestigious calendar slam of 2015. But it wasn’t meant to be.
Serena Williams was qualified for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore. Where no sane person would have bet against her, especially not on Betway.com
Serena Wiliams takes time to heal
“It’s no secret I’ve played injured most of the year — whether it was my elbow, my knee, or, in the finals moments after a certain match in Flushing, my heart,” said Serena, referencing the recent US Open semifinal loss to Roberta Vinci, which ended her bid to claim the calendar-year Grand Slam.
“I’m a fierce competitor,” she added. “And I want to compete as well as I can, for as long as I can. So I am taking a proactive step and withdrawing from tournaments in Beijing and Singapore to properly address my health and take the time to heal.”
“This is a very difficult decision, but one ultimately made because of the love of the game. I plan to return to practicing and participating in exhibition matches later this year. And when I do, l will focus and focus and focus so I can continue my journey in this beautiful game.”
Road to Singapore
To take part in the BNP Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore, you need to be among the best of the best. Only those who have performed consistently over the season will qualify. Those who qualified for the 2015 season so far are: Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep and Garbin Muguruza.
Next in line are Angelique Kerber, Angnieszka Radwanska and US Open 2015 winner Flavia Pennetta. But wait…the odds are still there for Timea Baczinsky and Carla Suarez Navarro. But I’ll bet you that the current players on the list of qualifiers will not be giving Baczinsky and Suarez Navarro any freebies. If you disagree with me then check out the odds on Betway.com.
