Roland Garros is well underway and has already seen it’s fair share of upsets in the early rounds of the tournament. Na Li , Francesca Schiavone and Caroline Wozniacki were all ousted in the first round. Na Li lost to French player Kristina Mladenovic in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 6-1. Mladenovic is the current world number 103 and Sports Betting Dime is predicting that she will reach it to the second round.
Francesca Schiavone lost to Croatia’s Ajla Tomljanovic. Schiavone, the winner of the French Open 2010, lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
Caroline Wozniacki lost her opening match to Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 7-6, 4-6, 6-2.
It is quite clear that Wozniacki is elsewhere in mind following her recent break up with golfer Rory McIlroy. At the post match press conference Wozniacki had the following to say:
“The only thing I really have to say is that, you know, thank everybody for their support and sweet messages. That’s really nice,” Wozniacki said. “You know, what happens in my personal life, I just want to really keep that between my closest people around me. You know, I just have to move on.”
When asked if she was able to prepare mentally after what has happened to her in the past few days she said:
“Obviously it’s always you know, you’re not prepared for something like this, and came a bit as a shock. You know, I just tried to prepare the best that I could, and really tried to focus on my match and on what I had to do out there.”
About Wozniacki’s future plans. She said she doesn’t quite know what the future holds for her taking it one day at a time. She does want to get her knee back to 100% before she starts thinking of making more future plans.
She didn’t expect her body to detoriate faster than she anticipated at the age of 23.
“I have done a lot already in my young years, but at the same time, you know, I feel like there is still a lot of things that can be improved on. And even when I was playing my best, you know, there are still things I can improve on. So I believe that, you know, that’s why I’m playing, because I believe that I can, you know, get back to the level I had and even play better.”
